The early bird catches the .....quilt top?

You all know that my Dad spoils me rotten right?
Well, a month or two ago when I went to visit him and my Mum he handed me a yellow envelope.
Guess what was inside???

A heap of charm packs. Not just any charm packs, these were Cosmo Cricket charm packs! They were a mix of Early Bird and Tailor Made.
How awesome is that for a pressie!?!
Yep, my Dad not only thought to get me fabric as a surprise gift but searched for one of my fav designers!!! Isn't he the bestest!!!
Why am I talking about these charms in the past tense?
They have now become a quilt top. A HUGE quilt top that I can't wait to quilt and cuddle.

Now I'll add Nick to the pic for a size reference.

Look what the postie handed over today!!!

Yep, a whole heap of "old" Tula, some Mendocino, some Summer in the City and a charm pack of Wee Play!!
I could've kissed him!
I am loving just looking at them at the moment, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to undo those ribbons!

What did you week look like last week?
Mine was pretty ace.
It looked kinda like this

Nearly finished a new dress. Just gotta do the hem and a few tweaks. Then there will be more pics to show.

I painted the chrome on this little mini rod for a very cute little fella.

Helped my Spunky fella rub back and polish his car ( gosh it's a big car!)

Then we decided to take it for a drive. Show it some sights.

Saturday morning I had a lovely morning with some friendly rats ( our sewing group) where I picked up my order of owls. Yes folks, that there are Full Moon Forest owls!! I am still doing a happy dance over that one!

This is what happens when you leave a boy and his Dad in the shed on their own! In case you can't guess, It's a spaceship

New family member

Our family is kinda large. Almost but not quite Brady Bunch status. Anyway, when the opportunity arose to add another member to our family, how could I say no?

Everyone, meet Mable. Mable meet everyone.
I am so excited!
She is going to be perfect with helping out with all of my dodgy dress sewing adventures!
Oh the fun we will have!
I don't have to clean up after her or cook for her. ( although, a couple of people have mentioned that she needs to put on a bit of weight first!)
Apparently, you have to adjust her to fit your measurements. Your measurements don't instantly adjust to fit her! Spewin!!
Anyway, I think she will be a bit of a super hero to me!

Slack? Me??? Maybe....

Apparently, being slack isn't a good enough excuse to not blog anymore! (thanks Linda!)
I can now do it from my phone so maybe I will be a tad bit more regular now. Or maybe not
So where do I begin...

I went to The Daylesford craft experience and had an awesome time!!! I can highly recommend it!! I think I came home with a bit of a girl crush on Kristen Doran (above). Her fabrics and patterns are amazing!
I also came home with a heap of goodies!! Yay!!
I reckon my "to do" list doubled after that day! So many new patterns and kits to get into and guess what!?! I haven't started any of them....yet!
Now, you are probably all still in a state of shock that I have actually blogged so I'll let you have a rest. I want to say a great big thank you to everyone who sent me lovely emails to check that I was ok! You all rock! I still have a couple to reply to, sorry!!!

Bloggers Quilt Festival!! Yay!!

I LOVE this time of year!
All the designers are coming up with new fabrics and patterns to release at Market AND there is the BLOGGERS QUILT FESTIVAL run by Amy over at Amys Creative Side!!! YAY!!!
I couldn't decide on which quilt to blog about, I have a few favs at the moment that i just love and have a story to go with them but I have decided to tell you about my Parisville Quilt.

I am absolutely hopeless about coming up with names for my quilts. They usually get named after either the pattern I use or the fabric I've chosen. How's that for exciting! ;)
Anyway, This fabric range so many amazing fabrics that each could be a feature fabric in any quilt. How do you showcase a range like that???
I decided to give "Sweet Garden" by Carolina Patchworks a go.

Not knowing how it was going to look, I thought I'd try the first block out to see what it would look like. You know those nerves you get when you first start cutting into your fat quarters? Argh!
Luckily, I loved that HUGE first block. so then I cut more fabric and kept sewing.
Bit by bit.

I know this is a "busy" quilt but I love it! I love the Purple sashings,

I love the faces peeking through, I love the size... Everything!

I would definitely recommend the pattern to anyway that wanted to give it a go. It was so much fun to make!

Well, The kiddos were kind enough to give me a quiet afternoon so I got some more blocks finished and put together. Yay!
I still have 3 blocks to add to the right hand side to make the overall shape of the quilt more square.
Hopefully they will feel as generous tomorrow!

Isn't it amazing how much peace and quiet you get when kids are hoping that they get heaps of chocolate the next day?
I had a house full of perfect angels yesterday so I made sure to take full advantage of the situation!
I have managed to get some of my blocks put together in my sweet garden quilt.

Above are blocks 1,2 &3 sewn together.
These blocks are really fun to put together. No two blocks are the same.

I have been treating it kinda like a block of the month, I get out all of the bits for one block at a time. Its way easier!

I had some of the cameos that weren't "full" so I had some fun fussy cutting them.

I hope your kids are being as good for you!

Yes, I am corny!

I don't want to put anyone off from making this quilt but....

Have you ever made a quilt that just fought you from the very beginning?
You know the one, You seem to make a mistake every. step. of. the. way.!!!
She was even hard to photograph!!!

I have to admit, I haven't treated her too nicely in return.
I have swore at her, I have put her down,Constantly. Even in front of people.
But you know how I am going to make up for all of that?
I am going to sleep with her!

I am going to put big borders on her. I am in no hurry to make more rings!
Then she is going to enjoy her life laying on my bed every day!
Just gotta decide how to quilt her.
Any suggestions???

I know that I promised this blog was going to be 100% positive but you guys are going to have to bear with me today.
I am off to a funeral today.
His name is John Katsanis. He was an amazing man.

John was responsible for so much in the Australian Hot Rodding world.
He organised and ran the BEST car shows in Oz.
It was at these car shows that he helped me get my foot in the door with my painting.
It was at one of his shows that I met Paul.
We even had some of our wedding photos at his house.

He was a very quiet and shy man but always had a smile on his face.
The hot rod community will not be the same now.
R.I.P. John. (Chopper).

A week or so later...

So, I have been back from the best weekend ever! for over a week now and still haven't blogged. Oops!
Sorry!
Started off with an awesome trip up through the mountains with Rach.
Kinda slow going behind a truck.

This was me trying to get a photo of how "fast" we were going and the truck in the same pic.
Didn't work so well.
Anyway...
We got there and put our dibs on what bed we wanted. We made our way to the kitchen and opened the chocolate. That is pretty much where we stayed for the rest of the evening.
Chatting up a storm.
turned out that my big drama of keeping my fabric clean of chips and chocolate wasn't my biggest dilemma of the weekend. Who saw that coming???
It was the killer hangover that shared Saturday with me! Argh!
Its OK but, I was only trying to piece my single girl quilt. yeah you know the one. Its got lots of little pieces and CURVES!
Needless to say. I didn't get it finished. No photos either. we aren't really on speaking terms at the moment.
The other talented ladies that came got some finishes.

Adele bought this awesome diamond ruler and started this. Ace colours yeah?

Rach finished her Sherbet Pips top. Look at all of those tiny pieces!

Linda started and finished this awesome top using some quilted fish fabric. It is so sweet and pretty.

Alison started and finished her Kitchen windows top using Kaffes. the colours of this were amazing.

and because she is a show off, Rach finished another top using mainly plume fabrics.
I didn't get any photos of the actual house but it was so good. we have booked our next one already!

Weekend Away!

I am off for the weekend! YYYAAAYYY!!!
I am heading to the beautiful Alexandra area for a weekend of sewing, eating and laughing, with a handful of great friends.
No kids, no stress!
One has become a piker and is staying home but we will (eventually) forgive her. Her excuse is pretty good as it required surgery and stitches.
I have decided that my biggest dilemma of the weekend will be how to eat that much junk food without getting my sewing dirty. Any tips? :)

I can't decide what to sew???
so.... I am taking heaps! I have hand sewing for the evenings (I can't just sit and veg)
I have 2 WIPs and 1 newbie with pattern all ready to go. Each of those tins has its own WIP.
I have so many bags of stuff to pack, I am soooo glad Rachal has a wagon!

Pot Holders

I signed up again this round for the Pot Holder Pass that was on Flikr and organised by Amy.
The theme was Monotone.
I signed up thinking, that should be great, I have heaps of colours in my stash. Easy peasy!
well, my partner chose Orange. I didn't have any orange! Eeek!
I checked out my local and also spotlight but their ranges of orange was very disappointing.
Lucky I have some awesome friends that came to the rescue! phew!
I love string blocks and noticed that my partners inspiration pics had similar designs so the fun began.
I made random width strips and went for scrappy, wonky, string blocks playing with the colour values.
Hope my partner likes them.
I had a lot of fun making them!

W.W.S.T aka, What We Sewed Tuesdays

In an attempt to stop being so slack with my blog, I have decided that I should share with you guys what my Mum and I sew each Tuesday.
It is pretty much the only definite time each week that I get things done!
so...
The last couple of weeks we have been working on getting these tops done.

We were a bit late to the party with the quilt along. As in, It was over before we started but anyway...

Mum used Fandango by Kate Spain. How awesome does it look!?!
We both went with a colour wash design rather than a mish mash.

I used Pure by Sweetwater.
I had plans of giving this away but I am not so sure any more. it is kinda masculine with the colours but when you look close at the fabrics, They are full of flowers and hearts.

I guess I will have to wait and make up my mind when it is all finished and quilted.
We are ordering the backing asap and can't wait to get quilting on these babies!

If you don't then you are missing out!
She is a quilter that is based In Kansas City. In fact, She is now quilting out of the Quilt Shoppe each week.
This chick is amazing, In fact I have mentioned before that she should have a cape! Her quilts are a work of art!

I sent over a quilt top and back to her last year and look how it returned!!!

She did a swirly zig zag design in each of the strips and peeper border and an ace design to fill in the rest.
I love this quilt! Yep, I hate to say it but I think this is going to take over the place of the Neptune quilt on the back of the couch!

Her photos are heaps better than mine, She has got snow everywhere and they still look better! Anyway, go and check out her blog and say G'day, She is in the process of moving into what looks like an awesome new home!

Itty Bitty Butt fun

Yesterday I had to paint an order for some Baby Wipes Cases, Which made me realise I had never shown any of them on here.
I have been selling these bad boys on Ebay for the last couple of years and they are a heap of fun!
The paint lasts on them really well. I used one for Nick for a year and a half and it only had minimal wear ont he corners but considering that my nappy bag seemed to hold more stuff than Mary Poppins bag, it was pretty good!
I started these during a stage when Nick was pretty young and I was kinda going stir crazy, so they really helped!

Its a bit of fun :)

Hot Rodded sewing machine case

I love summer. I know I am definitely not alone there!
For us, Summer revolves around car shows and swap meets.
I know it sounds odd and boring but it is more the culture that goes with it that I adore!
I love all of the retro clothing and dresses. The shoes and hair do's.
Cruising around in an old car with all of the windows down, Your hair blowing around everywhere and you are so sweaty that you are sticking to the vinyl seats. Sounds like heaven to me!
I kinda got fed up with it all for a little while but something has clicked inside this year. I want those times again.
I am planning to sew some new dresses this year. I have about 3 that I adore and wear to pieces but I need more... and shoes to match.... don't get me started on handbags!!!
So if anyone out there has any tips on sewing clothing, I am all ears!
Anyway, the point of this post was to show you Mona's new case. well, old case with new makeover. In the car show spirit...

Year of the painter.

Did you guys know that its the year of the Painter this year?
Whats that you say? rabbit? Huh?
Nah, I'm talking about inside my own little bubble.
This is the year that I concentrate on my painting more.
I don't often talk about my painting and work on here because, Honestly, Since Nick was born, I haven't been doing enough of it.
I figure, Kids are only little once and I didnt want to miss a thing.
Well, the ratbag is off to Kinder this year. Did you guys just hear the angels sing hallelujah too?
2 whole days a week to paint! Yay!!!

To celebrate, I finally painted my Hubbys bonnet of his big red car.
I don't know about you guys but when it comes to making things for family they seem to get left til last. alot last.
My spunky fella has been (patiently) waiting for this for nearly a year now! Oops!
Lucky he loves me :)
His t-shirt quilt car cover is still in the works too. As in, still planning in my mind stage.
Anyway, his bonnet is finished and I am wifey of the year.
Just to make things difficult he wanted the picture under the bonnet, not the smooth and easy top. No no, the rippled and bumpy side.
So its not perfect but considering it is going to be viewed by people bending down and looking at it from funny angles while the bonnet is up, It will do nicely!

I also bought a car last week!
Awesome huh? This is my second ever car. My first is my 47 year old holden that I LOVE to pieces but he is getting pretty tired.
My parents had a little black Peugeot. My Dad refered to it as his European Thoroughbred but they didn't drive it very much. So when we needed to borrow it around christmas time to bus our tribe around, Dad decided that it could stay and play at our house so with a very reasonable deal made, I now own a European thoroghbred!
Cool huh? It is so zippy and easy to park! SO much easier at the supermarket now!
I also see a blank canvas.... What do you reckon? a nice set of flames for her?

QLD floods

I am sure that by now you would have seen all the blogs popping up mentioning the flooding in Queensland.
It is just devastating to think about all of the poor families that have been ripped apart because of this, There have been 12 confirmed deaths and approx 70 people still missing.
So many families have lost their homes and their belongings.

This is a huge blow. These are major cities completely evacuated, Businesses are ruined.
Everyday life for these people is going to take years to get back to normal.

How can we help?
well Toni from Make it Perfect is running a fundraiser where blogs are having auctions and raffles to raise money for the Flood Appeal.

Lamest excuse ever.....

I will admit it, I have been a terrible blogger!
I think the term is super slack!!!
I am going to blame my Iphone. Huh? wait, I'll explain...
See, I check all of my emails on my phone now and I also read all of my favourite blogs on there too. The problem is that it is such a pain to leave comments and stuff using the phone that I think, I'll get on the computer and comment on that. You know what I mean?
But then.... I never need to get on the real computer anymore because I have already checked my emails and blogs etc...
So, No blogging and no leaving comments for friends on their blogs.
SUPER SLACK!!!
I have been sewing.
I finished the Freckled Whimsy quilt along.
I quilted a tight stipple in the white sections and left the coloured pieces alone. I love how it turned out! It was more a test for me to see how much control I had while I quilted the centre of the quilt.
I am pretty excited about trying new quilt techniques now! Any ideas???

I also started and finished a quilt top out of one of my Botany Jelly rolls. This was a kit I bought.

It was supposed to need 2 Jelly Rolls cause those corners were supposed to be mitred but I went with the easy answer and did them this way and cut a few strips from the yardages I had and only needed 1 Jelly roll.

I love this top and I cant wait to quilt it. Such a good size, I think it is about 73 inches square.

This next quilt was copied (eeekk!) straight from one I saw on Flikr. I don't usually do this but I just loved it and I had the fabric. I Love it just as much now that I have sewn it too!!!

I figure that as long as I credit where the idea came from its more like sharing than stealing yeah?

Have any of you made a quilt just like one you've seen? No imagination necessary? I'm not the only one am I???

I think that is all I have photos of at the moment. You are just gonna have to believe me when I say that I wont be gone so long this time!

The colour purple...

As a lot of you already know Mum comes over every Tuesday and we wisely spend the day sewing and quilting!

In June she started her most formidable project to date to produce an early wedding anniversary surprise for a lovely lady at dad’s work.

After finding out her favourite colour was purple, Mum and I spent a lot of time selecting the right fabrics. It was such hard work checking out every quilt store we came across in the search for purples! : )

Then work began in earnest every week and slowly it began to evolve over time into a king size quilt that has exceeded our expectations. It’s a monster!!!

We finally finished the last stitch on Saturday.

She has done such an amazing job! I only helped with the cutting she did everything else on her own! What a champ!

I have been so super spoilt with all the well wishes and comments from all the awesome people out there that I have met in blogland! Thank you everyone! I read each and every comment! I just have been slack in replying, Sorry!

I opened up an envelope last week to reveal this amazing hand made card from Amy!

Isn't it just gorgeous!?! Imagine how fiddly it would have been to make???

So sweet, we had the Irish wedding prayer read at the ceremony. Love it!

Then I received a parcel all the way from Canada! Thanks Kristie!

I may or may not have been like a kid at Christmas.... It didn't rattle when I shook it :)

How awesome is this hoop? I actually squealed when I opened it all up. Paul gave me the strangest look. couldn't have been to crazy sounding, He still married me : )

I ripped it all open to fast to get a pic with the wrapping paper. Oops. pretend it was like it was above but with gorgeous paper!

Where have I been?
Well, to sum it up, I have been drowning in tuille!
How crazy are weddings????? There are so many different things to organise!!!
Well, I am on the home stretch now, in less than three weeks I will be married! yay!
But until then....
I don't think I am going to be able to blog much. I have done next to no sewing so not much to report about there.
I can do a pre wedding sneak peak if anyone is interested? Tuille Tuille and more tuille.
Here is where the bribing comes into it.
I have a charm pack of Figgy Pudding waiting here and because apparently christmas is just around the corner, one of you fine folk might want it?

How do I get it, you ask? well, Barry the weather god has been awfully generous around here. Lots and lots of water falling from the sky lately!
You mission if you choose to accept it is.... you need to guess what the temp will be on my wedding day and if it will be raining or dry.
because there are so many variables to this. You know how every weather channel is different? well, I am going to go by the one on my phone.

I will take a photo of my weather screen the morning of the wedding and the winner will be notified asap after that.
So, Leave me a message and promise you will still be my friends after this huge blog break and while you are there, have a guess at the temp and rain or sunshine. Please don't guess the same number as anyone else, first correct guess, wins.

Bloggers Quilt Festival

I am joining in at The Bloggers Quilt Festival over at Amy's Creative Side.
This is always such a fun few days looking at every ones blogs and getting a chance to chat with everyone who leaves comments!
I have been so busy planning my wedding that I haven't been sewing at all! Shocking, I know!!!
So, I am going to have to tell you all about a quilt I made earlier in the year.
It now lives on my couch and I snuggle with it every night, even when its not cold!

My Mum was interested in learning how to make quilts, so I got out 2 jelly rolls from my stash and we both made a quilt each.We sat side by side at my kitchen table each Tuesday until they were finished. We used the same pattern and the same fabrics.

You could say we have twin quilts : )

I just love how they turned out.

It would have to be my favourite quilt for sure!

Wow!
Organising a wedding is insane!!!
Because this is a positive only blog, That is all I am going to say about that! : )
My friend Kristie
recently did a blog post telling us how great Canada is. I totally believe her too! It is definitely in my top 3 places to visit!!!
Anyway, It made me think about Melbourne.

I think I take living in Australia for granted sometimes.
I do love this place.
There are heaps of "BIG" things everywhere! Whats not to love about that!?!

I love that Aussies give each other nicknames, many of which are longer than the original names! They usually end in an O.eg, Robbo, Wayno, Chambo,
We actually do call each other Mate and we really say G'day!
If you have ever seen the movie, The Castle. It is a glimpse into Aussie life for sure! Every one I know can relate to that movie! : )

I love that we pretty much have our own language, similar to English but not quite the same!
Australia is very laid back with pretty great weather too!
If anyone remembers the tourism adds from the 80's, yes, we do throw prawns on the Barbie!

Oh yeah, everyone has a Koala in their backyard!
Kidding! I think tourists see more Koalas than the locals do!
So....

This is how I spent my day yesterday.
Gee, such a shame that I had to stay home and sew instead of going into the city : )
I finally got my Freckled Whimsy quilt along top finished!
This was a bit of a wowzer to get done! I hate trimming down half square triangles and after all the ones in the Botany quilt, I just kept putting this off.
I am glad its done now and I am looking forward to quilting it!
Fabric is Sweet by Urban Chiks. yep, I am using my beloved Urban Chiks fabrics. I haven't cracked open the 1974 jelly rolls yet. Baby steps.

I have been meaning to get photos of this beauty for ages!
Thanks to Barry being completely unpredictable earlier this month, I managed to get this top started and finished in one day!
Gotta love that!!!

This is Ellie's pattern from the Moda Bakeshop.

It is a really pretty pattern that is super simple for an awesome result! Gotta love that!!! Fabric is Fandango by Kate Spain.

I think I have to take it easy on making quilt tops at the moment, I have 7 waiting to be quilted! 7!!!
I am guessing that the next few posts will be photos of my quilting and hopefully finished quilts!

Good news? No footy next weekend! : )

A Grand Day Out

Yesterday Paul, Nick and I went and saw the bright lights of the city.
well, it was during the day so there were no lights but you get what I mean.
While we were there I convinced Paul we should go to an art exhibition at Federation square.
Not just any art exhibition, It was an exhibition of pure awesomeness!!!
Have any of you guys been?

I would love to show you a gazillion photos of it but sorry, no cameras allowed so you only get these teasers.
Why were we in the big smoke you ask?
Well, apparently this weekend there is a bit of a footy game happening and Paul's favourite team are playing.

Yes folks, Paul barracks for Collingwood, worse yet, he has already brainwashed Nick!!!
Anyway, being the lovely girlfriend that I am. We got up and trekked into the city to watch the boys train, along with HEAPS of other people!

Then we had the joy of standing in these crowds while we waited for the grand final parade to happen.

We got to see the fellas being driven past in their utes so they could wave and get yelled at.

This is what the big fuss is all about.
Good news? No footy next weekend! : )

It was a grand day out for sure but the highlight was definitely the Tim Burton Exhibition!
We are off to a grand final day BBQ today. Our friends put one on every year. Should be fun! Don't tell Paul I told you but he is even wearing his Collingwood undies! Don't worry, there are no photos of that! ; )
I hope he gets to see them win!

Do you know how hard it is to find black and white fabrics without flowers on them?
OK, well it was harder back when I was buying for this quilt. Now, there are heaps!
always happens that way huh!?!

I think this one got the big nod of approval from the owner as I had to keep stealing it back from him while he was at school so I could finish hand sewing down the binding!

I love that when you look at this pattern, It looks wrong. Your eyes can't stop moving! I thought it was a perfect quilt that he wouldn't grow out of.

Botany

I've been slack huh!?!
Well, as far as the blog is concerned, I have been.
It's the wedding plans! There are so many things to do and organise!
There is only 10 weeks to start fights with people so we can keep the guest list small enough that we don't have to sell any of our organs to pay for it!
I have been sewing a wee bit.
I have a few quilts to show but only one at a time.
(This is me trying to make sure I blog more regularly.)
First up we have my Botany Half square triangle quilt.
I really should start to think of names for these instead of the fabric line..

I tried a few different poses for this lovely little thing.
Her she is on my painting stand.

Here is the good ole chair in front of the lemon tree.

And here she is on the clothesline. I can't quite manage to get that "blue steel" look from my quilts yet.One day...
Each finished block is 16", so she is a great size!
Fabric is the lovely Botany by Lauren and Jessi Jung.
I am really happy with this one, except... Not sure about all that white. I don't know where she will eventually live but she sure is pretty to look at huh?

On Friday the weather gods were being awfully generous around here!
I don't know which gods they are, but I'm gonna name him Barry.
The sun was shining, All day!!!
So, Did I grab my freshly finished quilts and run outside to take pretty photos of them strategically positioned on an old chair in front of the lemon tree, Looking like that's the way I left them?
No, I did gardening! I know!!!!
I am not a fan of gardening!!! I think its because I am an inside person so I am not out there enjoying my garden enough.
Anyway, Yesterday, Barry wasn't so kind. It rained, Alot, all day!!!
No photos still!!!
It was a great day to stay inside and sew!

Well, A friend that I have met through the Blogiverse, Ellie, has a quilt thats gonna be on the Moda Bakeshop. How awesome is that!
It is a perfect Beginners quilt with minimal cutting and very few seams to match up but it looks awesome!
It also helps that she has made it out of Botany!!!

I can do raw edge applique! Kinda...
Remember a couple of weeks ago, I won a class with Kellie Wulfsohn.
On the first day with attached all of the pieces using Kellies method of raw edge appllique.The second day was spent learning how to do all the fine little quilting bits.

So I came home and did some homework between the two classes.This little pretty will be a cushion.

I got to see some awesome quilts in the flesh! This chick is amazing!!!
She is an awesome! The whole two days when we didn't have our tongues sticking out with concentration, we were laughing ourselves silly!

Handover Day.

Last Friday was handover day for Clair.
I will be honest, I was scared for the safety of my Penguin but he did survive.
Clair's part of the swap was her talent at her quilting machine.
She very kindly quilted this quilt for my Mum.
I forgot to take photos before it left to live at Mums house so I have stolen this photo from Clair's blog.
It looks awesome huh! Such a great job!

This is what she got in return. It is her sewing machine case that is now in camouflage. Her sewing room is so filled with fabric that this will just blend right in! : )

Rachal came over too and we had planned a day of sewing. Clair and Rachal both had their sewing supplies on the ready but somehow between our show and tell and our gossiping, Oops, I mean highly informative conversations, there just wasn't enough time in the 5 or so hours they were here!

15 Weeks!!!!
It is only 15 weeks to my wedding!!!
I hope you guys don't mind but I'm bringing you along for the ride.
I have a really bad habit of leaving things to the last minute. I must not do that this time!
All of my friends have been telling me off already that enough hasn't been organised.
In my defense, some things are kinda had thought put into them : )

I Love this big wide Blogiverse of ours!
I have made heaps of awesome friends who are so amazingly talented!
One of these friends is the Amazing Angela!
Sounds like she should be wearing a cape and mask huh? Maybe I should suggest it to her. : )

I was over at her blog before, stealing photos of the quilts she has added her magic to and I couldn't decide on which ones were best so I stole heaps!
Hope she doesn't mind!

She tells me that she lives in the Midwest and says Y'all alot, One thing that sucks about emails is that I don't get to hear it!
I kinda imagine her sounding like Ellie May Clampett.( With a mask and cape)

If any of you gus out there live around Kansas City or anywhere in the U.S. then you are crazy if you don't book this lady in now!
Geez, Book her in for quilts that you haven't even started yet! C'mon!

Everytime she posts about her latest bit of work, I find myself wondering how I am going to get over to the U.S. so I can steal it! My plans never seem to come to fruition! Maybe its the super hero in her?

But, guess what???
She is gonna do some quilting for me! On one of MY quilts!!!
I know, Lucky huh!!!

I just have to decide which one to send her.
I am torn between a block of the month that is full of applique and stitcheries or a simple layer cake quilt that shows big chunks of the fabric.

I have been soooooo lucky these last couple of weeks!
You know how BlogLand is jam packed full of giveaways?

When my Fella decides he wants one for a car cover!
He wants me to make him a fitted cover out of all his old car show t's.
Hmm, Have I mentioned that this car is HUGE!?!
I reckon we could play a game of footy on the front seat and not fall over each other!

(He would probably kill me if I didn't mention that this is a "before" photo)

Does anyone have any tips for sewing with T-shirts?
I think I have to iron interfacing onto the backs yeah?

Jaybirds Circle Around Quilt

I was super spoilt for my birthday this year.
I got so many new quilting things and fabrics that I think I could happily turn 30 for the next 5 years!

One of the things I got from my Parents was The Circle Around Quilt by Jaybird.
This quilt is so ADDICTIVE. It was super quick to piece and so easy.
I have been looking at all of my precuts now wondering how many circles to make with them.
I just have to save some pennies and get the backing. I can't wait. It is all raw edge applique so after it gets washed it gonna go all fuzzy.
Yep, you read that right. I am looking forward to doing some washing! I know, Who knew thats what it would take!

If you get a chance I would definitely recomend popping over to Jaybirds shop and buying one of every pattern she has designed, This chick is amazing!!!

This is her next quilt that I have my sights set on.
I better get sewing on all the other awesome pressies that I got so I can blog about them too!

Mona is getting some tatts

Um, Have I mentioned before that I like the Urban Chiks?
Whats that you say? You may have heard me say that sometime?
Well, this is my favorite fabric of all their ranges.

I had one of those Duh moments the other day.
I have been wanting to paint Monas casing but I need to learn exactly how to get it off her and make sure it won't void any warranties etc...
I have been putting it into the too hard basket.
Then, I looked at her.
She was sitting waiting for her next time to shine, when I noticed that her cover is so plain. It was like it was laughing at me, taunting me that I hadn't thought of it before!
Duh!

It is still a work in progress but I'm sure you get the idea! I can't wait for it to be finished!
Just don't tell my boss that I was slacking at work. : )

I agree, I thought this was (mostly) a quilting Blog!?!
Where are the quilts?
All I seem to do is yabber on about fabric and patterns...
Well, this was my afternoon yesterday.

I have managed to finally finish binding this monster. It fits my bed perfectly and I'm sure my dreams are now filled with lots of soft, happy cute things because of it!

This little fella is so gosh darn cute!

This is one of his mates.

They both live happily together with more friends on this quilt that I managed to FINALLY finish quilting and binding.

I recently learned a NEW TO ME binding technique. I am probably the last one in the Blogisphere to learn this,but you know what? I'm gonna rave about it anyway!
It is completely machine sewn and you don't have to worry about missing bits on the back or anything on the back at all.

I still have to practice with my mitered corners but I think for the quilts that are gonna be puked on, peed on, jumped on, made into cubby houses and dragged through the mud like this one, this is a perfect technique! SO super quick!!!

I am still going to use the "Old" technique for my special quilts and the ones that are gifts.
I have finished quilting my Neptune quilt, It still needs binding but I'm not sure which way to do it. Maybe I should flip a coin?
I finished quilting Mums 2 quilts for her too.
See, I have been sewing too, not just shopping and complaining about how hard life is when you can't decide on which fabric to buy!

Nick has become obsessed with spaceships lately. EVERYTHING in sight has a spaceship drawn on it.
A couple of years ago, I bought some of this fabric by Prints Charming. I wasn't too sure what I was going to make, Maybe a quilt?, Maybe some jammies? I got it out of the cupboard 2 days ago to show Nick and I think I could see the love hearts appear in his eyes! he tried to take the fabric to bed with him!

Plan is, I am going to make a super simple quilt with this on the front and back for him to drag everywhere. Yes, I am going to bind it in the new, beaut, super simple, quick and easy binding way!
Don't like my chances of keeping it white for very long!

A little bit of crazy at a time...

Do you guys watch Scrubs?
I do, ALOT! As in, can watch from Season 1 episode 1 right through every chance I get to watch some TV then start back at episode 1 again. I think I have some sort of entertainment Amnesia. I can also read the same book over and over and not get sick of it. Weird.
Anyway, In one episode of Scrubs, Elliott is getting some advice about her new fella. She is told to only show him a little bit of her craziness at a time and he'll be fine.
Well, that is what I am trying to do with you fine folk.
I am sure at times, I may sound slightly odd, Don't worry. I'm sure next week will be worse ; )
Although I have been buying a lot of fabric lately, I usually have a project in mind for it before I actually own it. I bring it home and put it away with the pattern that I want to use and there it waits for its turn.
I don't have much "stash" that hasn't got a plan.

Enter, Botany.
This range is awesome. the colours, the prints. everything!
I have a jelly roll and stuff from this range but no pattern designated for it.
I can't decide on a pattern that will show off the fabrics "just right".
So, Here is where I ask for help. What is YOUR favorite Jelly Roll pattern?
What would you suggest for such awesome fabric?
I have recently been told that I need to use my fabric and not save it so I need you guys to help out! Please!!!

Last week, Mum and I made a trip over to Ballarat Patchwork.
Yes,THE Ballarat Patchwork.
They had 20% off store wide. Gotta love that!

I have been wanting some Love for ages now but you know how it goes. Yeah, I like it, Yeah I want it. Do I get any? Not sure? Then, all the great photos start turning up on Flikr and you wonder how to track down these people so you can steal their quilts. It is a wee bit easier just to make your own.
Well, Get some? Yes I did! 9 fat quarters and you know what? I LOVE it : )
Whats your thoughts? Do I need to add some of the dark red/wine colour?

Miss Tula was calling to us and we each got a layer cake and enough various yardages to make borders and bindings. Can't wait to get started on this!!!

You can never have enough pin cushions huh? This little lady is OH SO CUTE!
There may be a photo or two of her pop up later in the week, I'm thinkin. ; )

And, last but not least, I have jumped on the Red and Aqua bandwagon. I am really looking forward to making this but have no idea what pattern to use??? Plenty of time, I've still got more fabric to buy!

I am insane when it comes to my books. Some of these have been read twice and look at those spines!!!
No creases, no dog eared pages! nothing! I love my books looking new, none of these "well loved and well read" books for my bookcase!

I have been choosing to sit and read of an evening when I usually do my sewing.
so if you have been wondering why there hasn't been much sewing talk going on here, This is the reason!

They don't even have to have Vampires in them. I guess its more of the supernatural aspect that I love.
It has been a few days since I finished my last book and I can't stand it! I need more.....

At midnight tonight, Myself along with 2 of my closest friends are going to Crown Casino so we can stand along side hundreds of teenage girls waiting in line to see this movie!

We have had our tickets for ages! Yes, I know, Its on the verge of being pathetic.
I won't even mention my Twilight doona cover, My quilts might get jealous!
OK, I am sure the Jury is still out on whether or not this is a problem. (denial).

I LOVE the Urban Chiks. You know, The fabric designers?
Some have used the word fanatic to describe my love for them...
I hoard their fabric. I buy so much but then, I decide that no pattern is ever good enough. What if, I use one of my Jelly Rolls but then it looks horrible in that pattern? Doesn't matter that I've seen someone on Flikr make it in the same fabric, What if mine isn't as nice?
What then?????
OK, So. That is one of my inner dilemmas.
Next dilemma is...
I don't think I like their latest range. *gasp*
I mean, Its OK. I know why they have designed this. The vintage sheet phenomenon is HUGE at the moment. I am not much of a fan.

What do I do????
DO I buy some and hope it grows on me?
What if I don't buy any but then fall in love down the track when I can't buy it any more????
Do I get some and make a quilt only to have to turn around and have "the talk" with it? You know the one.... "Its not you, its me. No, you're a lovely quilt. I'm just not ready for another quilt on my bed just yet."
Someone please help!!!
I understand that by sounds of this post, choosing fabrics is the least of my problems.... But, Should I buy some of this range???
Should I buy it to support my Fav designers and then gift the quilt to a friend?
Should I watch from afar as it sells out?
Should I get some just to keep the rest of my Urban Chiks fabric company? They can all be friends.

Ok, BIG apologies for not blogging for so long!
I am sorry!
Hopefully this may stop the hate mail.
I would love to say that my reasons for not blogging is that I've been so super busy that I just haven't had time to sit down at the computer.
I would love to say that but... It may not be true : )
I have made my Siggy blocks,

Mum has been sewing up a storm! I sent her home with a couple of charm packs of Recipe for friendship. I told her to make 9 patches with them. Nice and easy. Such a good student! We have since made them into disappearing 9 patches. She added some sashing and borders and viola!
a quilt top! Not bad huh! : )

I have quilted it for her and nearly finished the binding.
Jakey got his uniform for the Army Cadets.
He looks so grown up! Wow!

I think he has decided that the haircut was worth it!

I have also nearly finished the binding on my 1974 monster of a quilt & half quilted Mums neptune quilt.
Mum and I made a special trip to Ballarat today to check out this shop.( more about that later).
We have had another Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild meeting.
I have joined the parents committee for the Cadets.. AND...
I have been painting.
So, I have been semi busy, and I promise that I will be back soon with more posts!

Neptune!

Back in March, I made a post about my Mum coming over each Tuesday. We try to spend the day sewing, If nothing else comes up. You know those things in life that try distract us from our sewing!?!

We have finished the tops!
This is Mums first quilt that she has made. She has done such a great job!
Not bad, Making your first quilt out of Tula's fabric huh!?!

We both made the same quilt using the same pattern and same fabric side by side sitting at the table.
It was a heap of fun.

They still have to be quilted but I had to show them off.

I had my first committee meeting for the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild last night.
Heaps of fun. Its very exciting to be there in the early stages of something that's going to be so fantastic!

Pot Holder Pass 3.

As some of you might remember I joined in the Pot Holder Pass after seeing what Mary had done in the last one.
I was super lucky enough to have Tiffany as my swap partner and this is the parcel that I received all the way from New York!

My Kitchen is grey and blue so that is what I asked for to match.

I haven't seen this fabric before but I love it! She has done such a great job in making these. She even changed the thread colour for each different part of the quilting!
She also made me a matching lavender filled trivet. Super clever!
I love it all.

Melbourne Modern Quilt Guilds First Meeting!

Saturday May 22nd was AWESOME!
I dropped the boys at my parents house early in the morning and Renae and I headed into the city for the inaugural meeting of the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild.
It was so much fun!
There was a bit of show and tell to begin with.

We were a tad late so we missed the beginning but there were still heaps to see!

On arrival we were handed a name tag, a goody bag and a raffle ticket.The picture below is what was in my goody bag. Everyones fabric and thread were different.

This was a bit hard to photograph clearly but we were given a quarter inch ruler that has the days details on it. Way cool!

I was wrapped when I saw my ticket was number 22. Yep, 22nd May and My birthday. Had to be a good omen yeah?
Yep! There were so many raffles during the day! I won one where I got to choose a bit of material from a stack. I have 2 charm packs and some yardage of Sultry already so this will be perfect for the binding! Yay! Score!

We didn't get to stay all day as Renae and I had to get home, We had a birthday party to go to! (more on that in the next post!)
I did join the committee. Our first meeting is next week.
I'm looking forward to the future of this quilt guild. They were all awesome chicks that are so full of enthusiasm and ideas. If you wanna join in too, Click on the button on the side column.

Bloggers Quilt Festival 2010!

Its that time! Yay!
Amy over at Amy's Creative side, Is hosting a Bloggers quilt festival.
Basically, we all write a blog post about a quilt we have made and then send her the link. Pop over to her blog to see the list of people joining in and check out some awesome quilts!

I started this quilt around the start of the year. I was so excited to get my hands on a Verna honeybun!
You know how it goes... Gotta find just the right pattern for the fabric...

Well, I found a pattern in The Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts book that I really liked, Only problem was that it was made for a jelly roll, Not a honeybun!

So, Out came the graph paper and the coloured pencils. It wouldn't be that hard would it? Sure the blocks would be smaller but you could cut more to a length so that should even out the sizes yeah?

I may have been wrong in my logic. The block at the top of the post is only 6 1/2 inches. Yep, 6 inches finished! 36 pieces in a 6 inch block!!!!

All that aside, I Love Love Love this quilt! It was way worth every tiny teeny piece!

This year I am so DEFINITELY gonna join in the Bloggers Quilt Festival! I didn't have a blog last year when they were on but now?
BAM! I'm there! I have no idea which quilt I am gonna enter yet???

I have also signed up for the Modern Siggy Swap on Jaybirds blog. We make 101 blocks and sign each and every one by hand and send them to her and she will send me back 100 blocks signed by different people from all over the world and then I make a quilt. Last but definitely not least...
Everyone knows how my parents spoil me rotten yeah? Well, They did it again!
The Australian Quilt Convention was on the other weekend and they gave me some pocket money to bring home some souvenirs. Yay!
I forgot to take my camera with me to the show so you're just gonna have to imagine all the awesome quilts that were there.
This is part of my souvenirs.
9 Fat quarters of Sugar by Art Gallery Fabrics and a little over a metre and a half of a pin dot fabric. I have my sights set on THIS quilt by Thimbleblossoms.
I also bought myself a great little folder that has an ironing mat on one side and a cutting mat on the other! Perfect for my Hexies and paper piecing.
Told you I was spoilt : )

By the way, I may have been kinda exagerating about the amount of unfinished quilts I have on the go, Its not quite that many : )

I want to start this post by wishing all the Mothers out there a wonderful day! I hope you all get spoilt rotten followed by a gazillion kisses and cuddles!!!
These are a couple of quilt tops that I have finished recently.
I had a Verna Honeybun and I wasn't sure what to make after the last Verna Honeybun was such a "project". So big brave me got a charm pack and made this simple layout. I am really happy with how it has turned out. I think I will straight line quilt it to keep the simple look to it. Its a great size and will end up on my Step Daughters bed I think.

This one is for my Local Supermarket Check out Chick. Yep, I stop and talk to EVERYBODY : ) We have become great friends and she got VERY clucky over Nick when he was a baby and decided that she wanted a little boy too. ( Her Youngest is 10) so now, She is preggers and Yes, It's a boy! Yay!

Any excuse to use this fabric is a good excuse I think : ) I got the idea for this quilt from one on Flikr.

Yes, I have very valid reasons for not blogging in the last week or so but I'm going to blame the weather anyway ;)
Everyone knows that you can't get good photos of quilts if its raining.

I have finished and bound my Verna quilt. Yay!!! I love it!
for now, Its just gonna have to live beside the Neptune quilt and wait for someone I know to have a baby girl. C'mon people!

This is the back, I took all my leftover Verna and added heaps of white. Adventurous huh?

I have also managed to quilt my 1974 quilt. This thing is a monster!!! Its huge!!! I am still apologising to my sewing machine for making her do this. On a side note, I have decided to call my machine, Mona. Yes, I did decide the name the day I was quilting this.

The back of this quilt is the same pattern but made from Layer Cakes. so It is a double sided quilt. I just don't know which side I like better? Maybe I'll just have to share the love with both sides.

I have had this quilt in my mind waiting to happen for so long!
It did make it to the started process a while back, but you know how it goes... A few hiccups here and there with it and it just gets pushed to the side.

I did have a funny feeling that I was being watched...

Hopefully it will be finished this week to show everyone, Yay!
I have finished and bound the Verna quilt so if the sun decides to shine today I'll try to take some photos.

My Janome and I spent some quality time together today.

This quilt top has been sitting around for ages waiting for its turn in the spotlight, Today was that day.I still have to bind it so I'll show proper photos when thats done.

I have realised that I am a lazy quilter! My stippling depends on where the pins are and I just squiggle aroung them instead of taking them out. Does anyone else do this? Should I be doing it some other way?

I need some help,I think my hard working sewing machine needs a name. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I took a " Sewing Day" today, I was getting WAY Behind on my Quilt Alongs!
I got all my Blocks up to date for Rachels Quilt along

They still need to be trimmed and ironed but, I think they will all look OK together.

I even got caught up with my Blocks for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along!

I have my sights set on making a baby quilt for a friend next using Make Life by Sweetwater.
Can't wait, Yay!

Modern Quilt Guild

It has been a very quiet time in the world of Kelli at the moment.
Other than the pinwheels last week, I have hardly sewn anything!
Yes, I'm getting grumpier by the day... grrr
But on the encouragement of a new friend I have joined in the Melbourne chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild!
Yay, Our first meeting is in the city on the 22nd May.
Which just so happens to be.... The bestest day of the year!!!
Yep, Happy 30th birthday to me and I get to spend half the day talking about sewing!
I am hoping to spend the other half eating Mexican food and drinking frozen margaritas.
Yes, I am smiling as I write this! I can't wait!!!

Little helper

As I have mentioned in my previous posts, this has been a week to get some painting done.
Well, I must've looked like I needed some help.

He was watching what I was doing and asked for a go too. I showed him how to use the airbrush and that was it...
The ONLY way I could get it back from him was to give him his own to use!

After a quick wardrobe change due to green paint on his t-shirt we were back on track.

I'm not really sure that I needed a red and yellow piece of paper but it is now one of my favorite paintings ever : )
Everytime we go outside now, Thats all he wants to do!
At least I know what he's up to while I'm painting huh?

You know when things get kinda busy, School holidays are on, Painting needs doing, House is begging to be cleaned, You've signed on for a *few* quiltalongs amd sewing projects etc...
Well, why not start another quiltalong?

Better yet, Why not wait until said quiltalong is nearly over before you even begin?

Sure you have plenty of left over fabric. It wouldn't be that hard to catch up and join in, Huh?

A friend came over today for a sewing day. Perfect combination I think, Friends and pinwheels. She is using Aviary by Three Sisters and my fabric is Panache by Sanae.

I haven't sewn in nearly TWO weeks!!!
So, I haven't really got any quilts to show and talk about.
A few friends have been telling me off for not putting enough of my paintings up here.Because I do as I'm told, (sometimes)...

These are a few of the Pin Up chicks that I have painted on canvases. The one above that is sliding down the firemans pole lives in our dining room, Which still amazes me. Usually I get so sick of looking at them while I'm painting it that I can't wait to sell them.

These other two are well and truly gone to a new home.
I have painted a few other Pin Ups but I can't seem to find the photos so I'm thinking that I REALLY was sick of looking at those ones : )

These are usually pretty fun, No stress style paintings to do which is always fun.
I have got a swap meet coming up next weekend in Castlemaine so thats why painting is on my mind. I think I'l be doing some this week as I don't have much stocked up.
Keeps your fingers crossed for me that I get it all done!

Out on the town

Last Friday, I had my first night out since the start of the year.
I took along my camera, I was thinking that there might be something to blog about.
This is me (centre) with Caroline, one of my bridesmaids (left) and Lisa, Paul's cousin (right).

Well, as you can see, a slightly drunk chick and a camera equals lots of happy snaps of me and not alot else!

When I got home and looked at what I snapped, there was heaps of photos of me with nearly every one in the place!
Sad...

I think it was obvious that I don't get out much...

The Guy above was the reason we were all out in the first place, He was there to sing and pose for photos it seems :)

This last one is just for Caroline, I think JD was secretly loving it! : )
Well, I had a fun night anyway!
I didn't handle the tired hangover the next day but...

Potholder Pass

I guess that means that I need to let go of my arm that is twisted behind my back and start thinking of a design or 2.
I saw Mary's pot holders on flikr a few weeks ago and I just love them!
So when she mentioned on her blog that round 3 was starting I went hmmm, but then when she replied to my comment and asked if I was going to do it cause its fun, How could I say no?
My first swap. Yay :)
Now I think I am off to make block 3 in the moose on the porch quiltalong. I hope the designs get better soon!

My name is Kelli and it has been a few hours since my last eBay purchase...

I think I have a problem.

I was doing great and only selling on EBay, But then...

I have been wanting one of these Bebarfald Bluebird sewing machines for sooooo long!
They have always been in different states or way too expensive!
This one was just a few towns away. They were a bit vague on their description and photos so its not as good as I hoped it was going to be but you know what?
I like it... Alot!
It still needs a clean up, this is how it was when I got it.
I have no idea about how old it is. I can't find any serial numbers on it?
If anyone knows any info, please share.
Now just to keep an eye open for a new (old) door knob.
Hopefully I can keep away from temptation and not buy anything else.
They do sell instruction manuals for these machines on eBay....

More Neptune!

My Mum comes over each Tuesday to spend the day with me, It isn't just a coincidence that Tuesday is my favorite day of the week ; )
Well, anyway... We have been spending our Tuesdays sewing. (I think she may be hooked too!)
We have finished off HEAPS of my W.I.P's so I thought it was time to start some new ones.

I have been holding onto these Jelly Rolls for ages. Yes, More Neptune!
I have been wanting to make a quilt out of the Jelly Roll book for ages too, so, My Mum and I are each making one.
I am really looking forward to it and hopefully she is too!
I will keep you updated on how it goes.

I saw on someones blog once, they did a Happy Monday post to start each week on a happy note. Well, I like Mondays, so, I am just gonna have random happy days I guess.
So today is Thursday, and the things that have made me happy today are...
The lovely and kind thoughts of Family and Friends!

After spending a Saturday together a couple of weeks ago and Checking out warbirds together, My Brother has decided to give me his model airplane.
It is a Boomerang, I think I have already mentioned that I love the Boomerang airplanes!
My plan is to finish it along with a Mustang model that my Dad bought me and have them hanging In Nicks bedroom. They are going to look awesome!!!
Big thankyou to my Big Brother!!!

My Sister in Law, Linda ( I may have mentioned her before ) ;) Well, she has a great friend that also quilts. I have had to pleasure to meet Bev a couple of times now and I got to see some of her quilts too, Very nice!
Apparently her heart is as big as her smile because look what she sent me in the mail out of the blue

3 patterns! 2 of which she designed herself. How clever is she!?!
I can't wait to get started on these, I have some Amy Butler fabric in my stash that put its hand up for the Ginger Blossom pattern.
looks like I'm just going to have to go shopping for the others, My excuse is that I am obeying the instructions on the envelope :)

Neptune double hourglass quilt

All I have managed this week really is to quilt this quilt.
I went with a very similar border design as Nicks quilt, but because I used all of the honey bun strips in the hourglass blocks I had to use yardage for the floating border.
I backed it in the same fabric.
I am slowly getting better with my free motion quilting. It is so much fun!
Now I've just gotta wait for someone to get pregnant so I can pass it on.
I have also started quilting Nicks Dinosaur Uproar quilt but it is just in the ditch quilted and then straight line quilted along the sashing. Yes, I know, Not very adventurous but I think it will look OK.

Jelly Roll Sampler Block 2

This is the week for the second block for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quiltalong.
I don't really like the design much, although there is one or two on flikr that don't look too bad.

I was looking at the design and thought I would play around with the colour placement and this is what I came up with.
Yes, the only things different in this second block are the colours and where there would be 2 small squares next to each other I used a rectangle instead.

I like this second block HEAPS better but I will wait til the end and see which one suits the quilt better.
I am saving all my nice fabrics from the jelly roll for later in the quilt so hopefully they will look better when I start using them : )
I have also been quilting a quilt and all it needs now is the binding so hopefully I will have a photo of that to show after the weekend!

A quick little skirt

I slacked off for a bit yesterday and made this for my Niece. I used Vanessa's tutorial. I have made a few of these now for friends daughters and they always look so great!

I love that it still looks like a bandana. These are so quick and easy!

Give them a go, You'll be hooked!

I get my Bandanas from the local market pretty cheap.

A wee bit of sewing

I had words with my Verna quilt pieces the other day and we both agreed that I should hurry up and get it pieced together!
Can quilts have ADHD? This quilt has so much going on and it is so small and busy busy busy!
If this quilt top had babies with Jakey's Bento box quilt those baby quilts would be insane! Anyway, enough insane talk...... For now.....
This was made with a honey bun. I converted a pattern from the Jelly roll, layer cake and charm squares book to fit a honey bun size.

Wasn't one of my smartest moments in life.... This next quilt is the left overs from Nicks Neptune quilt. This was made from 20 honey bun strips. I'm pretty happy with it but I think I like Nicks colours better.

I still have to add borders to each of these and I'm not sure how I'm going to do that. Any suggestions?

Scrappy 9 patch

I participated in Crazy Mom Quilts scrappy nine patch quilt along last year. I also managed to talk many people into doing it too! Nearly everyone in my class joined in and also Linda!

Well, The goal was, A 9 patch a day for 70 days. In my case it was 7 nine patches one week and about 30 the month later!

Anyway, I completed the top with some help from my Mum and together we basted it and then I quilted it. Well, the quilting isn't the best but it is now finished completely!

I have given it to a friend that works in a nursing home and asked her to pass it along to someone who might need a present.

I hope whoever ends up with it will like it.

I guess its time to start thinking about this years scrappy quilt design huh?

I think everyone should pop over to Lindas blog and ask her for photos of her scrappy 9 patch quilt!

I did it!
I finished A ring! I can't believe how much work goes into one ring! The drawing up of the seam allowances takes the longest but I think its gonna look pretty nice when its all done!

A Birthday

Yesterday we had a birthday to celebrate.
Our littlest boy turned 3!
Wow, it has gone so quick!
He had a fantastic day filled with lots of presents, lollies and ice cream cake!
He has learnt to rip wrapping paper of so quickly!
This is just as he was about to blow out the candles. Yesterday was also the first day of Moose on the porch's quilt along.
I'm not too sure...
But anyway, Here is the before...

Yesterday we loaded the tribe into Kermie and drove over to Point Cook RAAF base. They had their Open day/ Flying display on.
This is such a fantastic family day out. Free entry and heaps and heaps of things to do and look at! Many of the planes came from all over Australia.The plane above is a Boomerang and is my favorite type of plane. I love them!

The Roulette's came from Sale but we missed much of their display as we had to leave : (

My brother and his Family met us there too so that made it really ace!

Cant wait for the next one!

Jelly Roll quilt along

Moose on the porch quilts is having a quilt a long.
I am not sure how it is going to look but what the hey!
I have a boutique jelly roll sitting here waiting to be used so keep your fingers crossed for me and I will keep you guys updated on the progress.
I also started a new quilt yesterday, I know and I agree. I think I am insane!
I am hand piecing a Double Wedding Ring Quilt, using the left over fabric from Mums quilt. I can't wait to see some progress. It takes so long to draw seam allowances and cut out!
Yeah yeah, I know, Insane!!!
I'll try post some photos. If I get a circle finished any time soon...

Jelly Filled

A couple of posts ago I told you about my Wonderland quilt and that My mother in law and sister in law had made the same quilt out of different fabrics?
Well, this is them. It was really lucky that they were bound and finished by the time I arrived to take photos!
The first one is Judy's. She made it out of Urban Couture by Basic Grey. This is a close up of the quilting done by Linda.

This quilt is Linda's. She used Cotton Blossoms by Bonnie and Camille. It is a lot brighter in person. They both look so awesome! It's hard to believe that all three are the same pattern!

I love that!

Word for the day... Productive!

Mum came over for the day yesterday and because we are staying home alot at the moment due to the toilet being needed at a moments notice. We decided to sew!
This is the quilt that I started last year for Jakey. I wanted a masculine one and one that he wouldn't grow out of so, Once we chose between black fabric and the fairies (fairies lost!) I got started.
It was so hard to find black prints that didn't have flowers! I made it from the Bento Box pattern. It measures approx 80 x 70 inches.
I love how it looks! It looks like something is wrong but right at the same time! Perfect for a teenager!

This next quilt was the second quilt I ever started, Way back in Aug 2008. It began as a hand pieced quilt but after adding all the borders to the dinosaurs, It got put aside and kinda just got forgotten about.

Yes, they are supposed to be wonky.

I have decided this is the year to finish all my quilts and start the ones I have planned and bought the fabric for. So, Out comes the dinosaur quilt and out comes the sewing machine.

sashings and borders were added and now is finished and waiting to be quilted! Yay!

For some reason I thought that it was gonna be a small quilt. I was wrong. It's a fair size at 62 inches square.

We also got a pair of pants and a pair of shorts finished for Nick.

All this finished in one day!

Love it!!!
